When the magi had departed,
behold, the angel of the Lord
appeared to Joseph in a dream
and said, “Rise, take the child
and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the
child to destroy him.”
(Matthew 2:13)
God provides protection and provision for His people, even in difficult and dangerous situations. It is important to listen and act on God's guidance. We should rust and follow God's direction, even when it requires sudden and significant changes in our plans.
God fulfills His promises, reinforcing our faith in His divine plan. We should be aware of the reality of evil and the suffering it can cause, while also trusting in God's ultimate justice and redemption.
Despite the tragic events, God's greater plan for salvation through Jesus continued to unfold. This encourages us to trust that God is at work, even in the midst of suffering and hardship, and that His purposes will ultimately prevail.
Reflecting on these verses can inspire us to trust in God's guidance, recognize His protection and provision, understand the fulfillment of prophecy, be aware of the reality of evil, and trust in God's greater plan.
To trust in God's guidance, so clear and true,
In every step, His light shines through.
Recognize His protection, His provision so grand,
In the palm of His hand, we firmly stand.
Understand the fulfillment of prophecy's call,
In His promises, we find our all.
Be aware of the reality of evil's snare,
Yet trust in God's plan, beyond compare.
For in His wisdom, we find our way,
In His love, we rest and stay.
Trust in His guidance, His plan so divine,
In His embrace, our hearts align.
Lord Jesus,
We come before You with hearts open and true, seeking to trust in Your guidance, and to recognize Your protection and provision.
Help us to understand the fulfillment of prophecy, and to be aware of the reality of evil. Grant us the strength to trust in Your greater plan, knowing that Your love and wisdom guide us.
May we find peace in Your promises, And courage in Your presence. Lead us in Your ways and help us to live in faith and grace.
Amen.

Gospel Acclamation
We praise you, O God, we acclaim you as Lord; the white robed army of martyrs praise you.
Gospel | Matthew 2:13-18
13 When the magi had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.” 14 Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt. 15 He stayed there until the death of Herod that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, Out of Egypt I called my son. 16 When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi. 17 Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet: 18 A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were no more.
